Rock Hearts and Rhonda Vincent have joined together to render a brand new, beautiful patriotic song, co-written by Mark “Brink” Brinkman and Rock Hearts frontman, Alex MacLeod.
MacLeod and Brinkman collaborated on the song after MacLeod reached out to Brink about a dream he had. MacLeod said he went to bed, mindful of what a great life he has. Blessed in so many ways, he was reminded of his family, friends, and loved ones who have served or are serving in the US Military. He was mindful that the freedoms and liberties he has access to are not free, but instead paid for by the sacrifices of those who volunteer to protect them. Brinkman, a veteran himself from the US Air Force, and MacLeod, who grew up in a military family, both share this sentiment.
MacLeod wrote to Brink that he woke up at 3 AM with visions of his parents, grandfather, other relatives, friends, and former students, in their uniforms. The images in his dream were organized in a composite, photos of these veterans from all walks of life, all ages, and all creeds and colors. MacLeod is mindful of the sacrifices these veterans made, which allow him to “Go where he goes, Say what he says, Do what he does, and Prays the way he prays." MacLeod and Brinkman acknowledge that it's the sacrifices of these brave volunteers, who defend our rights and freedoms, that make it possible to live the way they live in this country. On top of the collection of pictures in his dream, MacLeod said, were three words: This Is Why.
As many bluegrassers know, Rhonda Vincent is the proud parent of a US service member, her daughter, Sally Zeising, who is a proud veteran of the US Navy and member of the Navy's band, Country Current. Rhonda graciously accepted the invitation to collaborate on This Is Why with the Rock Hearts. The Queen of Bluegrass lends an undeniable quality to the performance.
Be sure to listen for it on all the streaming platforms and stations, wherever you prefer to listen.
Also, make sure to thank a veteran. This Is Why.
